Frequently Asked Questions
My child is K-2. What will their involvement look like?
Students aged 5-7 (or kindergarten through second grade) are automatically placed in our ensemble. This means they get to participate in almost every song, learn choreography and sing! Eager students may be given a few lines, but this is not required. K-2 rehearses once a week in a separate rehearsal from the leads until a few weeks before dress rehearsals, when they will join the older student rehearsals.
What do dress rehearsals entail? What will my child need?
Dress rehearsals take place at the location of the performances (typically The Playhouse or the Marin Civics Center). Your child will need underclothes- preferably a white tank top and black shorts/spandex- and jazz shoes. If your child doesn't own jazz shoes, black/white tennis shoes will be accepted, but jazz shoes are preferred. Your child should also bring a water bottle to each rehearsals. Other items that might be helpful are bobby pins, hair ties, and alcohol wipes if the show will be using makeup (shows such as The Lion King and Cats are makeup heavy).
What does my child need to bring to rehearsal?
Your child will need a water bottle, pencils and highlighters to take notes in their script, and their script (which they will be given the first week of rehearsals). Some optional items would be snacks and jazz shoes. It is preferable that your child does not bring their phone or leaves it in their bag so they can be attentive and involved at rehearsal.
Do parents have to be involved?
Parent involvement is not required, but is always welcome! We appreciate parents who can take photos for our programs, donate pizzas for dress rehearsals, and other odd jobs. Volunteer forms are typically sent out the week before dress rehearsals if you would like to offer your time, but it is not necessary.
